For the Embossed Traps tutorial open Object Formula Switch Lite and load the the Switch Trap Embossed plug-in. In the Trap Parameters section note the Fractal formula plug-in, which is actually a specially designed Trap Shape that only works with Switch Trap Embossed. There are 104 to choose from. The default is Rose Range Lite and is closely modelled after a formula of Kerry Mitchell's. The Trap Embossed formula requires a specific coloring formula. There are several available in the Ultrafractal database. We will use Lighting with Textures in reb5.ucl as it has the largest number of plug-ins and coloring options. The example uprs are in the Parameters section of the Forum.

Example 1:
The first example is EmbossTrap1. It uses the Bicorn embossed trap shape and the Ikenaga Switch formula. On the formula tab of the top layer look at the parameter settings and experiment with them to see the effects they have. The bottom layer uses the Ikenaga Switch formula with the same Julia parameters as the top layer. The coloring formula is Smooth Alterations, which can be found in reb5.ucl.

Example 2:
The second example is Bones. It uses the Hermite embossed trap shape and the FrameRobert Switch formula. On the formula tab of the top layer look at the parameter settings and experiment with them to see the effects they have. The bottom layer uses the FrameRobert Switch formula with the same Julia parameters as the top layer. The coloring formula is Smooth Alterations. Note that Smooth Alterations uses an extended set of single argument functions, mostly taken from the special functions section of Wolfram's Mathworld. For Bones the arc Haversine function is used.

Example 3:
The third example is Grillwork, which is the most complex of the series. The top layer uses Embossed Traps, the second layer uses Slope Lighting and the bottom layer provides background coloring. Open the upr and examine each layer in detail.
