So I recently began experimenting with plug-ins for the first time, and I think I got the basics down except for one thing..

The flower plug-ins that I know do exist can't be found when I want to change the Mandelbrot forumla.

So they're here, shown as available in the file browser for plug-ins.

But then...

Not there when I try to find them after applying the Plug-in Formula under the Formula tab.

I got Orbit Traps for Outside coloring just so I have something there. But even when changing that the flower plugins are not showing up.

What am I doing wrong? 😭

If you look inside rkb.ulb, you'll find the first line of "Flower" to be

class RKB_TrapShapeFlower(common.ulb:TrapShape) {

so Flower can only be plugged into a place that wants a TrapShape. The Orbit Traps coloring on your Outside tab is such a place. Here's an example:

flower {

If you want to replace the Mandelbrot plug-in on your Formula tab, you'll need something of the type "Formula" or one of classes descended from Formula. UltraFractal is correct in not showing any Flower plug-ins there.

So I'm basically only able to use flower plug-ins in the Outside tab, not Formula?

First to clarify terms, as it can be confusing: all the pieces of UF that go into any of the tabs (Mapping, Formula, Inside, Outside) are called formulas. Some are plug-ins, some are not. The formulas that work in the Formula tab are of class Formula and classes based on the Formula class.

With the current state of UF formulas, you can use the Flower plug-in on the Outside and Inside tabs, but not the Formula tab or the Mapping tab.

The basic action of each iteration of a Formula class plug-in is to take a complex number and produce another complex number. The basic action of the Flower plug-in, of class TrapShape, is to take a complex number and produce a real number; the real number is designed to be used as an index into the gradient. The two classes are not compatible

It would possible for a Formula class plug-in to use a TrapShape plug-in as part of its calculation, but none of the existing Formulas do that.
